Important Post-Assignment Reminders

  • Number Plates: You must fit the new physical plates to your vehicle before driving it.

  • Insurance: You must notify your insurance company of the change in registration number.

  • New Log Book (V5C): The DVLA will automatically send a replacement log book with the new registration assigned. This typically takes 4–6 weeks to arrive.

  • Selling the Vehicle: Do not sell or dispose of the vehicle until you have received the new log book from the DVLA.

  • Original Plates: Keep your original registration plates. They will usually be reassigned to the vehicle if you decide to remove the private registration in the future.
