So, you’ve bagged a fancy new registration from Team Reg—congrats!

Now comes the exciting part: getting those new plates legally onto your vehicle. While dealing with paperwork usually feels like a chore, the online assignment process is surprisingly snappy.

Here is your step-by-step guide to making it official.

🛠️ What You Need Before Starting

Before you head to the DVLA website, make sure you have these three things ready:

  • The Vehicle’s Log Book (V5C): You will need the document reference number.

  • Your V750W Certificate Number: Team Reg provides this in your instructions, and a hard copy is sent via post.

  • Team Reg’s Postcode: When prompted for the certificate's postcode, use SY16 2JN.

Note: The online service is available daily between 7 am and 7 pm.

🖥️ The Step-by-Step Online Process

To begin, head to the GOV.UK assignment portal.

1. Enter the New Registration

Type in the private registration number you just purchased from Team Reg. Under the "Are you the grantee or purchaser?" section, select "Yes, I am the grantee / purchaser."

2. Provide Vehicle Details

You will be asked for the details of the vehicle currently holding the old plates:

  • Current Registration Number: The one you are replacing.

  • V5C Document Reference Number: The 11-digit number from your log book (no spaces).

  • Keeper Postcode: Your own postcode as it appears on the V5C.

3. Enter Certificate Details

Enter the 14 to 20-digit reference number from your V750 certificate. Crucially, when the site asks for the postcode associated with the certificate, enter SY16 2JN.

4. Confirm and Consent

Review the vehicle details (Make/Model) to ensure everything matches. Tick the box to confirm you are the grantee and consent to the assignment.

Pro Tip: Select "Yes" to receive an email summary. This provides you with the digital form needed to get your physical number plates printed immediately.

📮 What Happens Next?

Once the assignment is successful, it usually takes effect immediately.  Here is your post-assignment checklist:
